IFPMA (International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations) standard is based on the following fundamental principles:
Basis of interaction: Relationships with healthcare professionals are intended to benefit patients and to enhance the practice of medicine. Relationships should be focused on informing healthcare professionals about products, providing scientific and educational information and support for medical research and education.
Independence of healthcare professionals: Healthcare professionals should not be influenced to prescribe, recommend, purchase, support or administer a product due to the personal benefits this might provide (financial or others) but solely considering those who can give to the patient in treatment.
Appropriate use: Advertising should encourage the appropriate use of pharmaceutical products by presenting them objectively and without exaggeration.
Local Regulations: All relevant laws, local regulations and industry standards must be taken into account.
Transparency of Promotion: Any material sponsored by the company with relation to pharmaceutical products and their uses must clearly indicate who recommends it. Clinical assessments, after sales testing, experience programs and post-authorization studies should be used primarily for scientific or educational purposes.
