Sulfonamide with anti-inflammatory and immuno-suppressant action.
Formula:
Each coated tablet contains 500 mg of Sulfasalazine, excipients q.s.
Indications:
Chronic ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
Dosage:
Chronic Ulcerative Colitis: adjust dose to response and tolerance of each patient.
Initial therapy: Children 6 years of age and older: 40 to 60 mg/kg in 24 hours divided in 3 to 6 doses.
Adults 3 to 4 g daily in divided doses at intervals of no more than 8 hours. In some cases it is advisable to start treatment with a lower dose, e.g. 1 or 2 g per day to minimize the potential gastrointestinal intolerance. If more than 4g a day doses are required to achieve the desired effects, the increased risk of toxicity should be taken into account.
Maintenance therapy: In children 6 years or older, 30 mg/kg of weight in the 24-hour period divided into 4 doses. In adults 2 g/day.
In adults with rheumatoid arthritis start with 500 mg/day the first week, increasing week by week to doses of 2 g/day maintained throughout three months.
Ingest the medication with meals.
